A Generation of Onlies

Those who can must have more than one child, not just for their own old-age insurance, but so that we as a society don’t end up with a whole generation of selfish only-children that will make the Me Decade of the ’70s look like Marx and Engels’ originally planned socialist wonderland.

They Need to Clean the Kitchen

At any time I can count my gay friends on one hand. Attrition stays high — disappearance, permanent fallings-out, deaths. Don’t be deceived by television’s sunny portrayals. The waters of gay life are cold, choppy, and polluted.

Big Plans?

C still hung out with D for some time after graduation, though. They both lived in New York City. Even during college D had been an actor, and now he had just wrapped on a film! One that unbeknownst to anyone would soon catapult him to cult star status, and then eventually to star star status.

Mrs. Sorrentino

When I was about 7 years of age, I remember standing around in the school library with a couple of other children and Mr. Sorrentino, the librarian. She had just returned from an out-of-state librarians’ convention.

The only reason I remember the name Sorrentino is because of this anecdote. What happened next had a profound effect on me for life. I was never the same afterwards.

Improper Emphasis Story #3: Where Are Your Clothes?

“My friend Sanya and her boyfriend Kurt and I were partying one night at this cool outdoor concert, smoking some weed, drinking some wine. Now I had always had a crush on Kurt, he is so beautiful. Big brown eyes, freckles, honey-colored hair… So, after the concert Kurt invites me over to drop some acid [...]

Your Own Company

My dad is like me: Smart, witty, a great raconteur… But not what anyone would call easygoing. He wants things done his way. I’m that way, too: Do whatever you want, however you want — unless I’m involved. If I’m involved, you’ll have a whole set of rules (my rules) to follow. (Tip: Don’t involve [...]

Improper Emphasis Story #1: Olsen Twin

Both of the Olsen twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley, did internships in the mid-Aughts (2000s) in New York City. This story, told to me by my friend, is about one of them.]

German-on-German Aggression

It is very rare to find a German who will break rank and go against other Germans. It’s just not their way. I only saw it personally twice. Once I saw a young guy trying to ride a bike down the sidewalk, but an older man was holding the seat from underneath. At first I [...]
