[Both of the Olsen twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley, did internships in the mid-Aughts (2000s) in New York City. This story, told to me by my friend, is about one of them.]
“So, [Olsen twin] was doing an internship for [my boss], but she didn’t really want to get coffee and do stuff like that. She was really more interested in learning [how to do the mechanics of the thing for which my employer is famous, which I also do].
“So she would walk with me over to my little studio across town and I would show her things, little tricks of the trade.
“Well, one day a friend of mine at People Magazine emailed me and said ‘Look at this’ — it was a photo off their wire service of me with [the Olsen twin] walking down the street, and the caption said ‘New boyfriend?’ … they never published it.
“But what I couldn’t understand was how the paparazzo had taken our picture without me being aware of it at all. Even if he had a zoom lens, how would he know to look for us? I mean, she always had a hoodie on when we walked around, and… I’m just a nonfamous nobody. In the several times we walked over there, I never saw a single photographer recognizing us or approach us or anything. And the angle of the picture was really weird, too, almost like he had been below us, like under a van or a truck? Or in some bushes, maybe? It was so weird. I just couldn’t figure it out.”
MORAL OF THE STORY: Paparazzi are so sneaky.
EMPHASIS PROBLEM: What I really wanted to hear about was my friend’s impressions of the Olsen twin. I could care less about the tricks and foibles of paparazzi.
